Luis Martínez López es Catedrático de Universidad de la Universidad de Jaén. Desarrolla su labor investigadora en las líneas de investigación de toma de decisión difusa, modelado de preferencias, sistemas difusos, sistemas de soporte a la decisión, marketing personalizado, computación con palabras y sistemas de recomendación Ha coeditado 17 números especiales en modelado difuso de preferencias, soft computing, toma de decisiones lingüísticas y lógica difusa, también ha dirigido 16 proyectos de I+D en éstas áreas científicas y publicado más de 165 artículos en revistas indexadas por el SCI, más de 33 capítulos de libro y más de 200 contribuciones a conferencias nacionales e internacionales. También es Editor en Jefe de la revista International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems además de editor asociado en las revistas IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, Information Fusion, the International Journal of Fuzzy Systems, Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Journal of Fuzzy Mathematics y miembro del comité editorial de la Journal of Universal Computer Sciences. Ha recibido dos veces el IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems Outstanding Paper Award 2008 y 2012. Indicar que es professor visitante en la Universidad Tecnológica de Sydney, en la Universidad de Portsmouth (Isambard Kingdom Brunel Fellowship Scheme), en la Universidad Tecnológica de Wuhan (Chutian Scholar), además de Profesor Invitado en la Southwest Jiaotong University y Profesor Honorable en Xihua University ambas en Chengdu (China). Finalmente destacar que ha sido clasificado como Highly Cited Researcher 2017-2022 según los Essential Science Indicators del Web of Science.
